CHILD PROTECTION CENTRE

Trinita is dedicated to bringing children back from harmful workplaces and ensuring they receive a complete, formal education. Advocating for the prohibition of child labor up to 16 years of age, our organization has taken effective steps to eliminate hazardous work in the region. By partnering with government and municipal schools, Trinita ensures children have access to free, compulsory education. The organization has rescued children from dangerous environments like hotels, mills, and factories, providing them with a safe space in special schools. In doing so, Trinita has restored their childhoods and safeguarded their rights.

COMPUTER SKILL TRAINING

Trinita believes that education, when delivered with quality and equality, has the power to transform lives and unlock full potential. With this mission in mind, the organization launched a project to equip marginalized boys and girls with basic computer skills, empowering them to become active participants in the National Digital Literacy Mission. To date, over 120 students from low-income backgrounds have earned merit certificates from the center, marking an important step toward a brighter and more equitable future.

TRINITY OPEN SHELTER FOR POOR AND DESTITUTE BOYS

The Trinity Open Shelter operates 24×7 year-round, offering a safe home for destitute boys with no one to care for them. Its primary aim is to protect these children, uphold their basic rights, and support their development through education, nutritious food, recreation, and secure shelter—helping restore their childhood and improve their lives.

We are encouraged by the positive changes we see: many boys have progressed from school to college, gained new skills, and strengthened their personal and practical abilities. The shelter has also eased the burden on mothers and guardians by ensuring their children receive proper care in our day or residential centers.

Residential Unit for girls

Under the Government of India’s Sarba Siksha Mission (Education for all), Trinita was entrusted with the responsibility of supporting adolescent girls from slum communities by providing them with education, secure accommodation, nutritious food, and a safe and nurturing environment. The objective is to offer a protective space where these girls can develop their potential and grow with dignity.

With the support of the Sarba Siksha Mission, Kolkata chapter, Trinita established a residential unit at Kazi Nazrul Satabarshiki Shikshayatan on 1 April 2016. More than 60 girls currently reside in the facility, benefiting from healthy meals, formal education, extracurricular activities, and additional academic support provided by appointed teachers.

SARALA CENTRE FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Over the years, Trinita has encountered many children with diverse disabilities, and their challenging circumstances have been very sad to witness. To address this, we established the Sarala Centre for Children with Special Needs.

This Centre works to bring positive change to the lives of poor and marginalized children and adolescent girls, aiming to bring smiles of contentment to both the children and their guardians. The children served include child laborers and ragpickers. Currently, more than 1,200 children from slum communities are enrolled in our community center, benefiting from our support and care.

Established in 2004, Trinity Boys Cottage in Coochbehar provides shelter and care for destitute and orphaned boys. Supported by the West Bengal Social Welfare Department, local authorities, and international donors, the cottage offers a safe environment with food, clothing, education, and healthcare. Land for the facility was generously donated by the Satkar Committee, Ghughumari. Today, the cottage accommodates up to 25 boys, rescued from the streets and brought in by the District Child Protection Committee, ensuring they grow in a secure and nurturing setting.

PROTECTION OF CHILD RIGHTS AND PREVENTION OF CHILD LABOUR

Since 2004, Trinita has been working to restore childhoods lost to early labor. Many children, aged 8 to 14, were forced to work in leather and rubber factories in slum areas such as Topsia, Tiljala, Tangra, and Park Circus, often exposed to harmful chemicals that caused severe health issues, including respiratory problems. Unaware of these hazards, parents and guardians relied on their children’s labor. Trinita identified these children, engaged with employers, and successfully enrolled them in its open school, providing education, nutritious meals, and recreational opportunities in a safe environment.

REMEDIAL COACHING CENTRE AT KOLKATA

During our continuous survey we found that most boys and girls drop out of school due to lack of educational support at home, as their parents cannot afford private tuition. To address this, Trinita established a Remedial Coaching Centre for high school students (ages 12–18), providing homework guidance, tutorials, nutritious meals, and educational kits including books, stationery, and essentials.
